Abstract
:
This research is mainly concerned about the study of grammatical terminology between Al-Khaleel and Sibaweih, the true founders of Arabic grammar. The objective from this study is to pursue the terms of grammatical terminology of the previous two grammarians and to relate them to their real founders. The study also aims at comparing and contrasting between Al-Khaleel and Sibaweih and others, and learning about their fellows. This research relies on two basic approaches- the descriptive approach and the historical approach. The plan of this research is divided into five parts: an introduction; a brief description to the history of the origin of grammatical terminology; a definition to the term terminology; a short autobiography about Al-Khaleel and Sibaweih; and an entry titled “Terminology and its Developments by Grammarians.” This research includes seven chapters that tackle the study of terminology between Al-Khaleel and Sibaweih with a short description to other grammarians who agree or disagree with them. Chapter one consists of word syllables, etymology and uninflected words. Chapter two deals with nominatives. Chapter three deals with accusatives. Chapter four deals with genitives. Chapter five deals with jussives. Chapter six tackles three different syntactical subjects: subordinates, syntactical approaches, and the meaning of the articles. Chapter seven deals with grammatical terminology of both Al-Khaleel and Sibaweih. The results approved in this study show that Al-Khaleel is appreciated for the emergence of most of the terms of grammatical terminology, in addition to Sibaweih’s role in preserving these terms despite his objection to some of them. The results also show more appreciation to Al-Khaleel’s role in establishing many of the Kufic terms- and to some degree to Sibaweih. Moreover, the results show that it is essential –beside Al-Khaleel’s book- to return to his publications if to relate the terms of grammatical terminology to him. This study recommends the following points: there must be a tendency to the study the terms of grammatical terminology between one of the Basra and kufic schools grammarians like Sebaweih and Al-Faraa, or Al-Farra and Al-Mobarrad. Also, there is a need to study the expansion phenomena of semantic.
