Abstract
:
This research is a study of meaning and it aims to survey and analyze the kinds of collocations associated with themes in the Qur'an. It also helps in determining the nodal items related to each theme and showing the relationship between these themes, and thus confirming the thematic unity in the Qur'an. This helps Qur'an readers to understand its meaning and realize the wondrous nature of its language. The thesis is divided into two main parts and a conclusion. The first part comprises the theoretical framework of the study. The second part includes the practical application. Part I consists of an introduction and two chapters. The first chapter investigates the science of theories of language, where it displays ancient and modern approaches in this regard. The second chapter is a thorough investigation of the collocational theory. It displays the different views of different linguists in this area. It also includes a presentation of previous studies and classification of the kinds of collocations. Such types are analysed and exemplified. The second part of the dissertation consists of an introduction and four chapters. The introduction describes the method used to identify and analyze the types of collocations in the Qur'an, and a presentation of the main domains of the Qur'an and the various themes related to them. Four themes are singled out for investigation. Chapter Three is a study of the nodal items and collocations related to the theme of "Rewarding" in the Qur'an. The fourth chapter is devoted to the theme of "Punishment" in the Qur'an, and the chapter is concluded by a comparative study of the collocations and lexical items pertaining to the themes of Rewarding and Punishment. The fifth and sixth chapters are devoted to the themes of "Belief" and "Unbelief". The procedure followed in Chapters Three and Four is applied in these two chapters as well. The conclusion lists all the findings and general remarks on the whole work. Suggestions for further research in the field of study are supplied.
