Abstract : The study of the Ottoman – French Relations ( 926 A.H. – 974 A.H. \ 1520 A.D. – 1566 A.D. ) has revealed that the relationship established between the two parties was for the purpose of common interest of both. The Ottomans wanted to expand their territories in Europe by founding a strong European allay, such as France. As for the French, the captivity circumstances of King François I under the emperor Charles V, King of Spain, made him contact Sultan Solomon to ask him for urgent assistance regarding his present status quo. After his release from jail at the Spanish government, the French King kept in good relations with Sultan Solomon through holding a Commercial Ottoman–French Treaty in 935 A.H. \ 1528 A.D. which guaranteed the safe execution of commerce for the French traders inside the Ottoman territories. Through holding the treaty, the Sultan aimed at winning the European (French) Alley to his side, which will aid the Ottomans in advancing towards the European continent. Moreover, Sultan Solomon succeeded in granting the French party’s consent to signing the Ottoman – French Privilege Treaty in942 A.H. \ 1536 A.D. this treaty resulted in the increase of the privileges to the French people within the Ottoman territory. France has earned the first privilege within the Ottoman palace. As a result of the development of the commercial interests of the two parties, they got closer by the collaboration of the two battleships of both the Ottomans and the French in 950 A.H. \ 1543 A.D. to invade the Spanish coats while under Charles the Fifth. However, as a result to the nearness between the two parties (The Ottomans – The French), Charles the Fifth attempted to draw France to the European camp. Despite the approximate success of Charles in attracting France to the European camp, especially the Spanish, the Ottoman–French relations was generally going on smoothly in commercial exchange and economic collaboration. The European nations desired to have the same status France had with the Ottoman Sultan.
